Here's some things that mentors don't do:
- therapy or counseling (we are not liscensed, and most of us don't *want* to be).
- give you easy answers to hard questions
- confidentiality in cases of child abuse or neglect, or threats to harm oneself or others (while mentors are *not* mandated reporters by law, it's unreasonable to expect them to sit back while you do something dangerous)
- provide an easy target for abuse
- provide 24/7 support or counseling
- abuse their prodigy (if someone is abusing you, cut off the relationship -- whether the person is your mentor or someone else in your life. Children or adolescents being abused by parents can seek out the services of a teen/adolescent shelter in their area for services and housing away from home).
