As long as we've been picturing an internal landscape there has been a bench inside our head. The bench faces the Front Window and the Projector Screen, such that there can be an audience, but the bench has also been a place for internals to sit and chat, to hold one another, to cry on one another, to lay down and rest. It serves a purpose much like the Pillows in that it's a comfortable place for people to simply hang out and relax without going deep.
