Recall

Ruth to Cel 1/27/99

I can't remember your name, but I remember your death,
How I stayed at your side as you gasped your last breath.
We had watched the sun rise for weeks just before
But now my heart leaps as you walked in the door.
This life that we're living is not our first to meet
Although I'd never seen you before on this particular street.
I felt myself compelled to touch your long hair,
To brush gently your ears and into your eyes stare.
I've seen you before, when my name you would sing
Rising on breezes with the curl of your wing.
I don't know your favorite color, or the day you were born
But I recall how your death made me sad and forlorn.
We last parted in sorrow and sadness and pain...
In joy, love and laughter do we meet again.

The words he spoke to me...
I pass them on to everyone,
From everyone to me...
The butterflies fly in the field
I used to look on in envy
Now I am among them
So happy to be free.
So happy to finally be me.

Riding Hard

Aliessa 10-2-01

I have somewhere to be,
  I don't want to rush, but I gotta get there soon.
I slide into the saddle and settle myself there,
Post a trot.
Leaning forward, twisting the reigns between eager fingers,
Direct my mount, who is yearning to run.
Riding hard, we're both panting in time,
I lean forward to kiss the graceful neck that serves me.
Rising and falling my legs cushin the repeated beats,
Decide to gallop.
When we're getting near, unfurl my wings and catch the wind as I ride,
Rise from the saddle and take to the air,
Vaulting into the heavens to soar.
And once there I come full circle,
My mount running beneath me,
We've come
  we've come
    home.

Road to Love

CRISS to T. for our Wedding 1994

Shuffling steps on the road through life,
Oblivious of others, bent deep with strife,
A glance at a face or two on the way,
Looking for true love, a love to stay.

Occasional meetings, the couples that dance,
Trading off partners, taking their chance,
Hoping they'd find the right one so true,
In one of those dances, I happened on you.

Although I've stopped trading, my heart dances with glee,
Having found one so perfect and honest for me,
I take him to the earth's altar, to be blessed from above,
Overflowing with joy, and filled deeply with love.

The Rosebush

You told me not to cut you,
But you were overextended,
Tendrils reaching out past mother's shade, which no longer bound you.
A weak occasional blossom belied your inner beauty, but was always out of reach.
Energies thrown outwards and upwards, never reclaimed.

I cut you.  You hated me.
Told me you'd never talk to me again.
Turned your back on me and sulked.
But when spring came,
You branched out.
You preened and fanned out in lush new foliage.
You blossomed, but still refused to see me.

Winter came.
Unpruned branches snapped off in the cold,
No longer supported by mother.
Spring heat and clensing rain,
Not only lush,
Truly teeming with life,
Every sprout a bud, a flower,
Brightest yellow in the sun.
You aspire towards the heavens,
Your golden face turned to the sky,
My awe to see you looking thus--

I don't dare talk to you.
Even if I brought you to your current beauty with my callous hand and insightful eyes.
I felt all your pain and anger.
I do not deserve your beauty.
